Cannabis was legalized in Canada five years ago and since that time the implications of this historic policy change for youth populations has received a great deal of attention and public concern. In this talk, youth substance use researcher Rebecca Haines-Saah will unpack key areas of concern about youth cannabis use in the legal context, including increased prevalence, the impact on mental health and providing effective cannabis education for youth.

Join us in welcoming Kurt/Ii ii kit tah pii who will share with us the Indigenous focused healing from a trauma-informed, Indigenous perspective.
Kurt Blind, is a Nehiyaw (Plains Cree) who identifies as Two-Spirit. The Blackfoot name given to Kurt in ceremony by Elder Clarence Wolfleg Sr (Miiksiikam) is Ii ii kit tah pii (Courageous Person). His ancestral lands are located in the Treaty 4 region (George Gordon First Nation) and he am grateful for the opportunity to live, work, play, study and heal on the ancestral lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Treaty 7).

The awesome Steve Gaspar gave us a brief history and explain how these wonderful coaches help Albertans live healthier and happier lives.

This talk focused on the current landscape regarding psychedelics as a potential therapeutic opportunity for substance use disorders. We highlighted recent supportive clinical trials, limitations to these findings, and remaining issues the field has yet to address. Dr. Mayo ended by discussing upcoming research in her own group that she hopes will help to move this field forward.
